About
Welcome to Heid's of Liverpool: A cherished gem nestled in the heart of Syracuse, Heid's of Liverpool isn’t just a hot dog stand; it’s a culinary tradition that has withstood the test of time since its establishment in 1917. Located at 305 Oswego St, this iconic eatery has been serving local favorites for decades, making it a must-visit for both residents and travelers alike.
The minute you step inside Heid's, the aroma of grilled meats wafts through the air, setting the stage for a classic New York hot dog experience. Customers rave about the Hofmann Frank, a traditional German-style frankfurter made with a mouthwatering blend of beef, pork, and veal, perfectly nestled in a soft New England-style roll. For those seeking something with a little extra zing, the Hofmann Snappy offers a zesty Coney experience that packs a flavorful punch.
But the offerings don’t stop at hot dogs. The Gianelli Sausage, topped with sautéed peppers and onions on a delicious sub roll, is another highlight that keeps patrons coming back. And let’s not forget the classic Philly Cheese Steak — a generous serving of shaved sirloin beef, complemented with onions and peppers, creating a savory treat that epitomizes comfort food!
What truly sets Heid's apart, however, is the customizable experience. Patrons can choose from a variety of toppings, including Heid’s Own Mustard, ketchup, and sweet relish, or opt for premium options like Texas Hot Sauce, cheddar cheese, and house-made bacon bits. This makes each visit feel personalized and allows each customer to create their perfect frankfurter.
Heid's of Liverpool also offers a refreshing selection of beverages, including Pepsi products, Birch Beer, and various bottled and draft beers, perfect for washing down a savory meal. As Rick Blake noted, while prices may be on the higher side for hot dogs, the quality and experience are well worth it.
Whether you are a first-timer or a returning fan, walking into Heid's is like stepping back into a warm, delicious moment in time. Come for the hot dogs, stay for the nostalgia, and leave with a satisfied smile. With every bite, you’re not just enjoying a meal; you’re part of a tradition that has been delighting taste buds for generations.
So what are you waiting for? Plan your visit to Heid's of Liverpool today and experience firsthand why this establishment is a beloved staple in the Syracuse dining scene.
“ We come here every time we visit Central NY, as much for nostalgia as the hot dogs. Heid’s is the hot dog stand that many locals, including my wife, grew up on. There are two choices - traditional and a brat style “snappy” that is also referred to as a coney. Either choice is excellent. The dogs are hot off of the grill, served on a melt-in-your-mouth New England style hot dog bun, and topped with a nice selection of self-serve condiments including their a own brown mustard. This is the place where I learned to love hot dogs paired with chocolate milk. ”
“ Great place for a quick hotdog. The staff was friendly and efficient. Realizing that the cost of food has skyrocketed I personally think 5 for a hotdog is a little too much. The hotdog was excellent ”
“ I visit hot dog places like this wherever I travel. I got a cool t shirt here. They had 2 types of hotdogs. One was pretty average. The other was whiteish colored and REALLY good. It was more like a sausage than a hotdog. ”
“ This is a Syracuse staple. Whether you're a visitor or resident, this is a must. Great place to visit year round but especially great in the summer. They have a ton of outdoor seating, live music, and an ice cream shop next door. If you just want hot dogs and fries, there's a kiosk by the live stage that has a limited menu for when it gets busy in the summer. ”
“ There's a reason Heid's is still around since 1917 and in it's iconic location since 1934. We used to go there as kids. The food brings back those memories. It's a little pricey for hot dogs but then again isn't EVERYTHING more expensive lately? If you've never been, you need to go! If you haven't been back in years, what are you waiting for?? ”
“ These dogs are simply the best. They grill them to perfection. Great fries, and I have to say it's one of those iconic stops you have to make. The young man taking our order was so funny that he could be a stand-up comic. One of our groups ordered the cheese steak, and it was delicious. ”
“ Not only is it *the* place to have a Hoffman frank or coney - they have an amazing team with friendly and engaging customer service. We celebrate my late dad’s birthday there every year and I just took a friend from DC to grab a coney (she was even offered a sample to try since she’d never had one) since she missed having a “Dome dog” at her first SU game. Pictures: this year’s celebration of Dad. ”
“ I had not been to Heid's in 17 years. Moved out of state & just got back to visit family. It did not disappoint. I had a Coney hot with onions and fried onions. Fast service and great tasting food. ”
